Temasek Polytechnic Week 0 Orientation

One word: fun

I don't know why some people just don't know how to enjoy their life and just cheer and dance to their maximum. But I did. I had fun by doing that. Who cares who looks at you? Just have fun.

Anyways I have awesome Orientation Leaders (OLs). They are Zed and Ananta. The yin yang couple. One fair skin one dark skin. Ha ha ha!

I didn't take any photos because our phones are confiscated (yeah they want us to concentrate on the games).

Icebreakers always suck. It was basically awkward awkward for 3 hours till break time. After break time, there was a talk and performance. Awesome performance! :-) Then we had to learn the ASc cheers & dance. It was fun. But Annie being Annie, not flexible. Ha ha ha!

Afterwards we had games. We had to become a caterpillar to get materials from the other end of the football field. We had to protect some egg using the materials we had collected. It made my hands got blisters but whatever, I had fun.

Then, we had another game. By this hour, almost all of us are tired and sweaty and sunburned. We just want to collapse already. So sorry to the OLs that we did not cheer as high as we did earlier on!

And then, another game. This time, it was war with the other ASc courses. We had to protect a newspaper post. Ohmygod, WATER GAMES. Someone went to use a whole bucket at throw it at the freshies. LOL. I never tio-ed it. Lucky Annie, ha ha ha!

Chic Fashionista Flea

So today there were tasks to finish.

I had to submit my artworks to Underground. So yeah, I went to Scape*. But before that, I met a girl around my area to collect my Givenchy inspired tops. I bought two.

The first one is the Angry Rottweiler with gems all around it. Second one is the Mermaid & Shark t-shirt. I am very surprised the Mermaid & Shark t-shirt is pretty similar to the real one. Very surprised indeed.

The Angry Rottweiler shirt is a size S. I really hope I can fit into it without making it a skin-tight shirt. On the other hand the seller didn't tell me the Mermaid & Shark t-shirt was a size M, she only told me one hour before the meet-up. But I was glad it is a size M, I like baggy tops.

The weird thing is, I like men's clothing. I like how the t-shirts are shaped liked a 'V'. I don't know why. Maybe it's because the wide chest area gives space for what's there. I don't know, really. I don't have boobs, what an awful truth.

Both shirts cost $34. It was actually $36 at first, but yeah, sweet talking brings good deals.

And then, when I got to Scape*. Wow. One of Singapore's blogger was there, her name is Pei Shi. I recognised her because of 313 Somerset's events. There were some Singapore Youtubers too, but I'm not quite sure what are their names.

I left my artworks without letting my boss see it first because he couldn't make it before 2pm and I had to leave because of the Chic Fashionista Flea.

I got to the flea at around 4pm. It starts at 5pm, I know. I mean, seriously, I'm an early bird haha.

It was super sunny. I am very disappointed at my outfit choice today. I didn't think about the squeezy, smelly surroundings I would be in. I didn't think about the weather. I wore velvet leggings, black tee, denim long vest (wow fantastic choice Annie). Seriously. What. The. Fuck. Was. I. Thinking.

So yeah, the place was squeezy, squeezy as shit. I only bought one item from OMS. It was the RAD crop top. It's cool. By the way, Singapore is either sunny or rainy. So, it's good to have crop tops.

Plus I have a lot of denim shorts already, so I left the place.

Yesterday's loots

I went to Scape with Joanna yesterday. She is literally my shopping buddy ok. There was a huge massive blogshop flea. We bought three items each! Each item is less than $10. Yay!

Patterned Longsleeved Top.
Price: $8 (Negotiated from $10)

I love collars. I love long sleeves although the Singapore's weather is super hawt. Joanna picked this out for me. She knows what I like. She knows I would wear that. Aw she so sweet right.

Vintage Blue Plaid Maxi Skirt
Price: $8

Well, I picked this out myself. It kind of looks like UNIF's Nevermind Maxi Skirt right hahaha, except for the slit of course but yeah. When I reached home, I flipped the skirt and saw a tag. It was in totally Japanese. And it said, "Made in Japan". I tried it on, and it FITS. It's like, a highwaisted maxi skirt for me. It touched my ankles perfectly. I was so happy ohmygawd.

The next item is in the wash right now. *_* It's a denim top. Price was $10 but negotiated to $9. Me and Joanna bought one each. So it's kind of like a friendship top I guess. We have a lot of similar items. Lmfao.

Well, and today we wore the same outfit of the day. Holy moly man.

I wore my favourite pair of dungarees and a vintage top, and creepers.

Joanna wore her dungarees and a black wife-beater and high tops. Looks pretty much the same huh!

We went home together. Well, on the MRT, Joanna told me I look like an art student, why did I choose to go to a Science course?

._. That seriously made me kind of sad. My parents don't encourage me going to fashion design. Same to my cousins that took design courses. They couldn't find a proper job. It's so scary. I want to pursue my dreams but I guess I can't pursue it now.

Ok that's all. Byeeeeeeeee.

Working in Popular (Singapore)

Hello guys!

I ended work on April 1st at a Popular near my house.

Firstly, what is Popular? It's a bookstore. It's one of the leading bookstores in Singapore. There are over 20 Popular retail outlets in Singapore. Recently, they have continued their business out of Singapore. Because, I've visited my relatives in Malaysia during February and the shopping malls seemed to have a Popular outlet (wow). I think they're trying to be known worldwide, like MPH.

So many Singaporeans know about Popular. The name "Popular" really kind of relates to its popularity in Singapore. It is really popular. So, even on moody Mondays, they still have tons of customers coming in and out of the store.

On my first day of work, I've absolutely no idea what am I supposed to do as a staff here. The supervisor wasn't around that day. The assistant supervisor, told me I'm placed in the English Department.

Hold on, hold on, hold on. ENGLISH DEPARTMENT?

What ran through my mind was just... "F***. It's huge." Which means I may have troubles finding books for customers. (I mean, I would do that if I was a customer at Popular.)

There was another two staff in my department. Helen and Jessieka. Jessieka left after my second day of work there. She taught me quite a few things about what to do. Helen is a full-time staff. She had worked in Popular for a few years, so she knows the place very very well.

Everyday in a department:

1. Pack books.
  • This 'pack books' term used in Popular actually means 'placing new books correctly onto the shelves'.
2. Wrap books
  • You may have to do this to books that are really fragile or have like additional features inside it, like a free gift or what-so-ever.
3. Tidy the department.
  • Some customers would browse through a book and then throw it anywhere. It's pretty annoying because there was once, a customer placed Fifty Shades of Grey right at the children's section. It's pretty inappropriate.
4. Help customers to find books.
  • If you're a newbie whom just worked for three days. This may be the toughest task to you. You're new to the environment. This is a huge bookstore. Plus, you cannot trust the Popular computer. Why? When I was working there, there was this male customer whom was finding an ACCA Accounting guide book. He heard that Popular has it. Because it wasn't from my department, and I couldn't find the staff whom takes care of the Text & Assessment Department, so I checked if there was such a book by using the computer. The computer wrote there: "No SOH." It means there's no stocks in all the outlets. I told him there were no more stocks. But after 15 minutes, he found it himself and he told the cashier about me telling him there were no more stocks. Wow. Fantastic baby.
5. Answer phone calls.
  • It may be from a customer or from another outlet. If it's from a customer, it's probably to ask you if there is a such book in the outlet he/she is calling. If it's from another outlet, it's to ask you if there's such a book in your outlet and if there is, they want it transferred to their outlet. :-) This is the most troublesome request.
6. Transfer books to other outlets.
  • This point relates to the previous point.
7. Sweep the floor at the end of the day
  • This is kind of common in any retail stores I guess.
Some tips for people who want to work there:

1. Always tell the person in charge of the customer service counter about your whereabouts.
  • For example, you need the toilet urgently. Tell them.
  • Another example, you're going for your break. TELL THEM.
  • You have to report to them whenever you're going OUT of Popular because, if there's a customer who wants to find anything from your department, they will 'page' for you. If they can't page for you for like idk, five times? When you're back from wherever you are, you are seriously getting a Rebecca Black concert. Plus, more colleagues would hate you.

2. If you cannot count money, it's best not to be a cashier.
  • At the end of the day, all the supervisors, managers would come out and count the money left in the cash register. If there's some amount that is loss, then you have to pay up. (I mean I rather run around in a department then paying up.)

3. Do not wrap books in front of the supervisor.
  • She would SCREAM in your face.

Hmm, I think that's about it.

Bye.
